Converting to a just-in-time (JIT) delivery program at the POU allows Avchem to minimize a customer's on-site inventory to 1 - 2 weeks worth, depending on the consumption surge risk of each work area. Materials at each location are provided with bar-coded material identifiers, which Avchem scans weekly for replenishment; the scan is downloaded to Avchem, who prepares its delivery to the customer to replenish the POU materials. Within its Chemical Information Management System (CIMS), Avchem sets up and maintains POU baselines for chemicals required at each specific POU. Baselines are posted and continually monitored at the POU locations and adjusted up or down, as consumption history or other information regarding rates and program differentials suggest. Shelf-life management of POU materials is an important part of a CMS program. Spoilage due to shelf-life expiration is costly and Avchem works to rotate stock at the POU, within the operating facility and among our other aerospace and electronics customers to minimize spoilage.
